Privacy policy

In short

We keep only what the site needs to remember your trips. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use advertising cookies. Outside Europe we use Google Analytics to count visits; in the EU, the UK and Switzerland we do not load it at all.

What we store

• One cookie (ww_sid) that links this browser to your passport, so your stamps are still there when you come back. It is needed for the site to work and is not used for advertising.
• Your progress: stamps, quiz answers, the sections you explored, saved recipes and phrases, game results and your streak. Nothing is saved until you do something, like finishing a quiz.
• Your email and the name for your passport, only if you sign in, with a link we email you or with your Google account. We use the email to sign you in. We send reminders, a weekly summary or a morning email only if you switch them on in your account, and every such email has a link to stop them.
• Your shared passport, only if you press "Share my passport": a public link with your map and stamps, and a preview picture of your map with the number of countries (and your passport name, if you set one). It is deleted with your account.
• A nickname, only if you choose one for the weekly league or the Speed round table. It is the only thing other players see.
• Postcards you create, so the person you send the link to can open them.
• Messages you send us through the contact form, with the name and email you give us, so we can reply.
• Simple visit statistics, such as which page was opened, the kind of device, the country the visit came from and the website that sent you. We do not store your IP address in these statistics.

Who else is involved

• Cloudflare hosts the site and the database, and delivers our emails (like your sign-in link). Like every web host, it handles your IP address to deliver the pages.
• Google sign-in, only if you press "Continue with Google": Google tells us your email address, and nothing else. We never see your Google password.
• Google Analytics, only for visitors outside the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: it counts visits and pages with its own cookies (_ga), so we can see which pages help. It does not get your email or your passport, and Google Analytics does not store IP addresses. You can block it with any content blocker or with Google's opt-out add-on; the site works the same.
• Google Fonts: the fonts are loaded from Google's servers, which receive your IP address when the page loads.
• Wikimedia Commons is where the photos come from, but we store and serve our own copies, so your browser does not contact Wikimedia.

If we ever add advertising, we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.

How long we keep it

We keep your passport and progress for as long as you use the site, so you do not lose your stamps. Visit statistics are used only to see which pages are useful, and are not linked to your email. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to answer you.

Your choices and rights

If you signed in, you can delete your account and everything we store about you yourself, on your account page. You can also ask us to show you, correct or delete your data: write to us through the contact page with the email you used to sign in. Clearing your browser cookies removes the link between your browser and a passport that is not signed in.

Children

World Stroll is made for adults. It is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
